Breakfast Meeting - OSHA's Crystalline Silica Rule Update
This two-hour presentation will review the basic requirements of OSHA's 2016 crystalline silica rule for construction and general industry, and then expand upon the 2018/2019 guidance issued by the agency covering everything from sampling, to short-term exposure tasks, to explanation of what OSHA for compliance with respiratory protection and medical surveillance requirements. It has been two years since the standard took effect for construction, and the speaker will share information on how enforcement is proceeding as a practical matter, and where the trap doors are for penalties of up to $132,000 per affected worker. The session will also outline the status of OSHA's reopening of the rule to consider medical removal requirements, expansion of Table 1 to include some general industry tasks and the new MSHA silica rulemaking (affecting cement plants and other construction aggregate operations) in light of congressional attention on related dust health hazards.
