Breakfast Meeting: Taking the Mystery out of Mass Concrete

"Taking the Mystery out of Mass Concrete" will be presented by Mary Vancura, Ph.D., P.E. (Beton Consulting Engineers)

What is a thermal control plan?  Why do we need thermal control plans for mass concrete?  How is a thermal model developed?  Thermal control modeling is not a voodoo science!  At its foundation is heat transfer, something we’re not used to talking about in the civil engineering/infrastructure construction business.  The purpose of this presentation is to answer these questions and to convey the most important parameters of mass concrete analysis—ambient temperature, heat of hydration of a concrete mixture, element size, concrete temperature as it enters formwork and show how changes in these parameters change the internal temperature and differential temperature between the core and face of the mass concrete element.  In addition—what can go wrong with mass concrete and why?

Registration opens at 7:00 am.  A full hot breakfast buffet will be served beginning at 7:15 am.  The presentation will begin at 8:00 am and will conclude by 9:00 am.
