Tech Talk Tuesday - Precast Concrete Diaphragm Design: New Provisions

New provisions for the design of precast concrete diaphragms are coming in IBC 2018. These provisions are based on an alternate design methodology in ASCE 7-16 that is mandatory for precast concrete diaphragms assigned to Seismic Design Categories C, D, E, and F. To complete the bases for design, ACI has published two standards, ACI 550.4-18 and ACI 550.5-18. These standards have been adopted into ACI 318-19 by reference. The presentation will cover the background, research and code changes that have led to this new way of designing precast concrete diaphragms.
