ACI Decorative Concrete Flatwork Finisher and Associate Certification Class - November 2019

Take advantage of the opportunity to obtain ACI Decorative Concrete Flatwork Finisher or Associate Certification. The Minnesota Concrete Council is pleased to be able to offer this certification program to the Minnesota concrete community.

DECORATIVE CONCRETE FLATWORK FINISHER / ASSOCIATE, HOW DO THEY DIFFER?

A Decorative Concrete Flatwork Finisher is a craftsman who has demonstrated knowledge about and the ability to place, finish, cure, and protect decorative concrete flatwork.

A Decorative Concrete Flatwork Associate is a person who is knowledgeable about proper procedures to place, finish, cure, and protect decorative concrete flatwork, but who lacks sufficient work experience to qualify as a Decorative Concrete Flatwork Finisher.

CLASS PREREQUISITE:
To take this class, you must be currently certified as either an ACI Concrete Flatwork Finisher or Technician.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Decorative Concrete Flatwork Finisher: ACI will grant certification only to those candidates who obtain a passing grade on the written examination AND:

  • Are currently certified as an ACI Concrete Flatwork Finisher and Technician
  • Possess 1,500 hours of actual on-the-job placing and finishing experience* (approximately one year of regular full-time work)

The two-hour written examination is closed-book and consists of approximately 50 multiple-choice questions. The passing grade for the written examination is 70%.

* Experience includes a minimum of 40 hours in cleaning and sealing of decorative concrete flatwork PLUS 250 hours in EACH of the following areas of decorative concrete flatwork placing and finishing:

  • Coloring
  • Stamping
  • Exposed Finishes
  • Stairs

Recertification is necessary every five years and requires successful completion of the then-current written examination.

Decorative Concrete Flatwork Associate: ACI will grant certification to those examinees who obtain a passing grade on the written examination AND are currently certified as an ACI Concrete Flatwork Technician.

Individuals with Decorative Concrete Flatwork Associate certification can upgrade to full Decorative Concrete Flatwork Finisher status upon submittal and approval of sufficient work experience and satisfying prerequisite certification.

Recertification is necessary every five years and requires successful completion of the then-current written examination.
