Tech Talk Tuesday - Updates to ACI 318-19

You are invited to the inaugural meeting of the new Minnesota Concrete Council ACI Chapter that will be held Tuesday, April 2 at Midland Hills Country Club in Roseville.  The presenter will be Cathy French, Ph.D., P.E. (University of Minnesota)

The American Concrete Institute expects to publish “ACI 318-19: Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete,” in 2019. The new edition will be the first since the reorganized format was published in 2014 and will include new and updated code provisions along with updated color illustrations for clarity.

ACI expects 318-19 to include new code provisions on topics including transverse reinforcement and shear in wide beams, hanger reinforcement, bi-directional interaction of one-way shear, and reference to ACI certifications. Existing provisions expected to receive significant updates and clarifications include two-way shear strength, ordinary walls, seismic loads, reinforcement detailing, analysis, and numerous materials requirements. Analysis methods for two-way slabs and provisions on shearheads and composite concrete columns are expected to be removed.

Specifically, in this presentation, Dr. French will provide more in-depth information on ACI 318-19 updates including the introduction of high strength reinforcement, new shear provisions for non-prestressed concrete, and the introduction of screw anchors and shear lugs. French will highlight some of the background behind the new code provisions. This presentation will be of general interest to structural engineers who design reinforced concrete systems.

Attendees will be emailed a certificate of attendance for one professional development hour (PDH) at the conclusion of the event.

Cost to attend this event is $35 after March 26 or $25 early-bird before March 26.  Registration opens at 11:30 am.  Lunch will be served at noon and the presentation will begin at 12:30 pm.  The event will conclude at 1:30 pm.
